چکیده

A new isolate from medicinal plant endophytes was identified as Penicillium sp. (HKUCC 8070). A water-soluble red pigment was produced by this strain in potato-dextrose broth, maltextract broth and a chemically defined medium containing glutamate as a nitrogen source. The red pigment produced was identified as heat-stable, polyketide Monascus red pigment. The highest yield of the red pigment was 1107 mg l obtained from the culture of Penicillium sp. (HKUCC 8070) grown on the malt-extract medium.

Changing oxidoreduction potential to improve water-soluble yellow pigment production with Monascus ruber CGMCC 10910

BACKGROUND Monascus pigments are widely used in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to their safety to human health. Our previous study found that glucose concentration induced extracellular oxidoreduction potential (ORP) changes could influence extracellular water-soluble yellow pigment production by Monascus ruber CGMCC 10910 in submerged fermentation. In this study, H2O2 and dithiothr...

Comparative Study of Monascus Sanguineus and Monascus Purpureus as Potential Sources for Red Pigment Production

Monascus spp. namely Monascus sanguineus was isolated from pomegranate (Punica granatum). In this study, the isolated M. sanguineus was compared with M. purpureus MTCC410 procured from MTCC Chandigarh, India for optimising the red pigment yield. It was observed that both strains had produced maximum red pigment on the 16 day of incubation (21.9 CVU/ml for M. sanguineus & 16.9 CVU/ml for M. purp...

Effect of glycerol as a sole carbon source on Monascus sp. for pigment production

In the field of natural pigment production, Monascus sp. is a well known name. These pigments have their applicability as food colorants. In this study, two Monascus sp. namely Monascus purpureus procured from MTCC, Chandigarh, India and Monascus sanguineus isolated inhouse, were compared for pigment production in submerged fermentation. Glycerol was used as sole carbon source and malt extract ...

Jackfruit Seed – A Novel Substrate for the Production of Monascus Pigments through Solid-State Fermentation

Solid-state fermentation was carried out using jackfruit seed powder as substrate for the production of pigments using a fungal culture of Monascus purpureus. Due to the buffering nature of jackfruit seed powder, colour of pigments produced was stable over a wide range of initial pH of the substrate. Jackfruit seed powder with a particle size between 0.4 and 0.6 mm without any additional carbon...

Production and New Extraction Method of Polyketide Red Pigments Produced by Ascomycetous Fungi from Terrestrial and Marine Habitats

The use of ascomycetous fungi as pigment producers opens the way to an alternative to synthetic dyes, especially in the red-dye industries, which have very few natural pigment alternatives. The present paper aimed to bio-prospect and screen out 15 selected ascomycetous fungal strains, originating from terrestrial and marine habitats belonging to seven different genera (Penicillium, Talaromyces,...
